That's why I install lava pumps in all my mines. And they on fail 50% of the time! That's pretty good for Dwarf Fortress.

Right. I want to do a variation of this to a bunch of elves, and drop them into the circus.

I would if I knew how to. :| I don't even know how to build a fortress but somehow I managed to get my dwarves to dig a channel I think on my first world ever.

Thanks for the link.

My new fortress in a world that I recently created is going to be completely militarized. And I think my crowning achievement will either be turning criminals into expendable shock troops with dwarves that have gone insane being some of the best fighters in the fortress; or building a tunnel straight under to the closest elf compound and digging another tunnel to the circus with a door that can only be opened by a lever. When the elves have crossed the line, I'll unleash the clowns.

Neat. I still prefer tactical magmafilled mine-cart strikes before more drastic measures. Still, I'm old-fashioned type who would use magma for everything, as long as it is lethal application.

My first forgotten beast was killed by a baby wielding a crossbow, which is freaking impossible in my opinion but after seeing so many randomness in Dwarf Fortress and its penchant to throw up Lord of the Rings-esque histories, I guess that anything goes.

First one I met was made out of snow. I sent my armored commander down to kill it, I didn't realize she was toting baby. Snow monster killed her. Her baby punched its head clean off.

I haven't encountered a Forgotten Beast yet, but I still remember my first encounter with a Titan.

Sucker flew over the walls of my enclosed outside encampment and decided to pick on one of my dogs.

I had a few dozen of them at that point.

It was a long, slow battle, but the Titan didn't stand a chance.

My first titan was a armored scorpion, I dident know what to do; so I locked everyone inside; 2 dwarves got stuck outside and were killed, a third was crushed by a drawbridge, than a Elven Caravan arrived and the titan chased a few elves around...

I was reading combat logs and realized that the creature got hurt by the fists of my dwarves, not badly; but it wasent very strong. I sent my 15 strong Iron Armored Guard to kill it; not a single dwarf was killed or injured.

That'll teach me to waste time hiding when Titans are such easy prey to Dwarven Metal!

I remember my first forgotten beast.
Killed just about half of everything in my fortress, so we sealed it away in the basement.
My hospital happened to be there, and so was my crippled former militia commander.
He threw his crutches at the beast, and proceeded to beat the shit out of it bare handed.
Needless to say, he kept his position as militia commander.

That's why I'm traumatized of underground caves, and now I just build overground camps, even if that's not how the game is supposed to be played. XD

Glorious comic, though ! \o/

I made killing all the sponges on the map a pet project...built gigantic stone javelins over them and dropped them all at the same time.  It was glorious.

I don't CARE if there's no way of taming them. I'll FIND a way to somehow use these vile beasts to my benefit! I'll kill half my fortress if I have to, but by Armok I WILL somehow succeed!

Okay, I see an error here. No self-respecting dwarven fortress would have left a deer wandering around. It's sure to have wandered into a weapon trap by now...

Must have been quite a fort for it to drop two mountains. I think I've heard too many DF horror stories, my first reaction to the last panels was, "What an unusually pretty landscape."
